With miles upon miles of exhilarating all-terrain mountain bike trails, Mammoth has become a popular destination for cyclists of all skill levels. The Scenic Gondola provides uphill access for mountain bikers and the Bike Park shuttle bus begins in the Village at Mammoth and takes you to the 11,053-foot summit.
If you prefer road biking you’ll be happy to know that Mammoth is a bike friendly town, complete with bike paths throughout. There are several scenic loops like Benton Crossing Road, Mammoth Creek, Mammoth Scenic Loop or, for a real challenge, bike Red’s Meadow.
At 8,000 feet, Sierra Star Golf Course is the highest 18-hole public golf course in California. The higher altitude allows you to add yards to your drive – an added bonus to the beautiful views! With sights of beautiful wildflowers, fairways lined with pines, white tail deer as your companions and incredible mountain vistas, you’ll never want the round to end!
Whether you’re an experienced angler or casting your first ever fly, Mammoth Lakes has several fishing opportunities on area lakes and rivers. Our lakes are stocked regularly with Fish and Game trout and trophy-sized Alpers trout. Mammoth Creek is a favorite with small stream angers for its pan-sized Rainbows and Brown trout.
With more than 25 lifts and 3 gondolas, Mammoth Mountain is a premier California ski resort with one of the longest ski seasons in the country. The Mammoth area has many groomed trails for all levels of ability. For the ultimate challenge, look for blue diamonds marking expert level cross country trails.
Snowmobiles provide another kind of outdoor fun. Explore the beautiful snow-covered mountains of Mammoth Lakes on trails that wind through the pines and provide stunning vistas and the occasional encounter with local wildlife. Mono County works in cooperation with California’s Off-Highway Vehicle Division to groom about 100 miles of trails in addition to about 75,000 acres of open expanse to explore.
